What do I do after a car accident in Estonia?
The Police and Border Guard Board says you stop as soon as you can without causing more danger, and you switch on the hazard lights and the side lights. If there are no hazard lights, or visibility is poor, you put a warning triangle on the road. If anyone hurt needs help, call 112, then give first aid. If you have not learned first aid, check that need with the rescue board. Keep traffic at the scene safe. You may move a vehicle or an object before the police arrive only when other traffic cannot pass, and only after witnesses have seen you mark the position and the traces. Write down the names and addresses of people who saw it. Show the documents a person involved asks for. Drivers who were in the crash do not drink alcohol or use drugs until the circumstances are clear at the scene. Call 112 if someone needs medical help, if the drivers do not agree, if you cannot keep the road or the area safe, if a person involved is not there so you cannot sign a record, or if you hit a large game animal. If nobody is hurt, the documents are in order, and the drivers and any pedestrians are sober, and they agree, they tell the motor insurer. The notice Teade liiklusõnnetusest is the form used across Europe. You can also file a notice at avarii.lkf.ee for a crash in Estonia with up to five vehicles.
