Where can I get free in-person tax help in the United States?
The IRS runs Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) and Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE). Trained volunteers prepare basic returns for free. The IRS does not set one income limit for every site. The page says many sites serve people who generally make about $70,244 or less, people with disabilities, and people with limited English. TCE focuses on people age 60 and older, including questions about pensions. Use the VITA locator on the IRS page, or call 800-906-9887. Many TCE sites are AARP Tax-Aide, at 888-227-7669 from January through April. What to bring is in IRS Publication 3676-B. The locator is updated from February through April. Confirm on the official page.
