What are the public holidays in New Zealand?
An employee in New Zealand gets a paid day off when a public holiday falls on a day they would otherwise work. The national holidays are New Year's Day, the day after New Year's Day, Waitangi Day, Good Friday, Easter Monday, Anzac Day, the King's Birthday, Matariki, Labour Day, Christmas Day, and Boxing Day. Each region also has its own anniversary day. When Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year's Day, or 2 January falls on a Saturday or Sunday, an employee who would not have worked that weekend day observes the holiday on the following Monday, or on Tuesday in some cases. Waitangi Day and Anzac Day move to the following Monday on the same rule. Employment New Zealand publishes the dates.
