What does a dog, cat, or ferret need to enter Portugal from another European country?
DGAV says a non-commercial trip of up to five animals, with the owner, needs a microchip, or a readable tattoo done before July 2011, and a pet passport issued in the European country where the owner usually lives. The rabies vaccine is given at 12 weeks or older, on or after the chip date, and a first vaccine counts only after 21 days. If the animal travels more than five days apart from the owner, DGAV treats the trip as commercial.
