What should I check before I get a puppy in Ireland?
The department says to see the puppy with its mother at the breeder's property, not in a car park, and that it should be at least 8 weeks old and microchipped. Anyone who sells or supplies 6 or more pet animals in a year must be on the department register, and a dog advert must show the microchip number. A dog is a long commitment of time, food, and veterinary care.
