What papers does a mortgage lender ask for in the United States?
The CFPB loan application packet asks for a pay stub from the last 30 days, W-2 forms for the last two years, and signed federal tax returns for the last two years. It also asks for other income, the two most recent bank statements, and papers that show where the down payment came from. A gift toward the down payment needs a signed statement from the person who gave it. You also need proof of identity, usually a driver licence or a non-driver ID, and a Social Security number. A recent name change needs its own paper. A housing counseling certificate goes in the packet if you have one. The list can still differ by lender. Someone who is self-employed may need more papers. A servicemember who wants a VA loan needs a certificate of eligibility from the VA.
