What is a debt-to-income ratio on a mortgage in the United States?
Your debt-to-income ratio is all your monthly debt payments divided by your gross monthly income. Gross income is what you earn before taxes and other deductions. The CFPB example is $2,000 of monthly debt payments and $6,000 of gross monthly income, which is 33 percent. Different loan products and lenders set different limits. This page does not say a particular ratio will be accepted.
