What is a Tax File Number and why does work ask for it in Australia?
A Tax File Number (TFN) is a personal number the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) uses for tax and super. Employers usually need it so PAYG withholding is correct. If you do not give a TFN, tax can be withheld at a higher rate. Never share it in random messages or on social media.
