How can I start a credit history in the United Kingdom if I have never had a credit card?
MoneyHelper names a credit card with a low limit, from a regulated provider, as one option when you have not borrowed before. The same page says to stay away from products advertised as credit-building that charge high interest or high fees, because those can hurt the score if you cannot pay them in full each month. A mistake on the report can be reported to the credit reference agency. The page says the agency should finish that check within 28 days, and the item is marked disputed while they look. Accurate negative information, such as a missed payment, usually stays for six years. This page does not say you will be approved.
