What fees should I ask about before I open a bank account in the United States?
The CFPB checklist names the fees to ask about before you open a checking or savings account in the United States. Ask about the monthly maintenance fee, the balance you must keep to avoid that fee, whether direct deposit removes the monthly fee, ATM fees, and overdraft or insufficient-funds fees. The checklist says an opening deposit is often $25 to id="content"00. That deposit is not the same as the balance you must keep. The checklist does not name a bank. The fee amounts are the bank's.
