Why might a bank say no to a basic bank account in the United Kingdom?
MoneyHelper says to ask why if a basic bank account application is declined. You should be told the reason unless the bank suspects fraud or money laundering. The page lists a refusal when you do not agree to a credit check, when you do not pass the identity check, when the bank thinks you will use the account unlawfully or fraudulently, and when you are threatening, abusive, or violent toward staff.
