How does the FGTS balance earn a return in Brazil?
Caixa says the FGTS balance in Brazil is updated each month on day 21. The update uses the reference rate, plus interest of 3 percent a year. Since 2016, part of the fund's profit is shared as well, and the total return must at least match official inflation.
