What protects a bank deposit in Hong Kong?
If a Deposit Protection Scheme member bank fails, the scheme pays an eligible deposit up to HK$800,000 for each depositor at that bank, and you do not apply or pay for that cover. Savings and current accounts, and a time deposit of five years or less, are covered, while a structured deposit and a deposit placed at an office outside Hong Kong are not.
