What should I know before I send a transfer from Germany to another country?
A euro transfer inside the European Economic Area to an account in euro costs the same as a domestic transfer. That area is the European Union plus Norway, Iceland, and Liechtenstein. A euro transfer inside that area should arrive in one business day, or two if you use a paper form. There is no statutory time limit for a transfer outside that area. A transfer of more than 50,000 euro must be reported to the Deutsche Bundesbank. The bank has the form. Since 9 October 2025, banks check that the recipient name matches the IBAN. Instant euro payments inside the European Union have been required since 9 October 2025, and the fee must not be higher than a normal transfer. A normal transfer generally cannot be cancelled once the bank has received it, unless a future date was agreed. A transfer is not guaranteed. Confirm on the official page.
