What is an adjusted cost base in Canada?
The CRA says the adjusted cost base is usually the cost of a property plus any expenses to acquire it, such as commissions and legal fees. You have a capital gain when you sell, or are considered to have sold, a property for more than that amount plus the outlays and expenses of the sale. To work out the gain or the loss, subtract the adjusted cost base and those selling costs from what you received. This page does not work out your tax.
