What is a basic savings bank deposit account in India?
The Reserve Bank says a basic savings bank deposit account is a normal banking service available to all customers, and a bank is not to set an age test or an income test for opening one. A person may hold only one of these accounts in a bank, and must close any other savings account in that same bank within 30 days. A term deposit or a recurring deposit in that bank can stay open, and the account still follows the bank's know-your-customer rules.
