How often should you replace a smoke alarm in the United States?
The U.S. Fire Administration says replace a smoke alarm 10 years from the date it was made. A 9-volt alarm and a wired alarm are replaced every 10 years. An alarm with a sealed 10-year battery is replaced when the maker's instructions say so.
