Where should a smoke alarm be in the United States?
The U.S. Fire Administration says put a smoke alarm inside each bedroom and sleeping area, and outside each one, and on every level of the home, including the basement. Put it on the ceiling or high on the wall. Only a qualified electrician installs a wired alarm.
