How do you get a marriage certificate or a marriage licence in the United States?
USAGov says a marriage licence allows you to marry, and a marriage certificate proves that you got married. A certified copy of the certificate comes from the vital records office in the state where the marriage took place. A licence that expired or was lost before the wedding is a new application in the state where you plan to marry.
