How do you dispose of used engine oil from a household in the United States?
If you change motor oil at home, put the used oil in a leak-proof container and do not spill it. Ask a local auto shop, waste collector, or government waste office where to drop it off for recycling. Drain the used oil filter and take it to the same collection point.
