How do you dispose of a fluorescent light bulb in the United States?
The Environmental Protection Agency recommends local recycling for compact fluorescent lamps, fluorescent bulbs, and other bulbs that contain mercury, rather than regular household trash. These bulbs often break in a dumpster, a trash can, a compactor, a landfill, or an incinerator. Some states and local areas require recycling, and some prohibit mercury-containing lamps in landfills.
