When does a car need a safety inspection in Pennsylvania?
The Pennsylvania driver's manual says a vehicle must have a safety inspection at an authorized station every 12 months. The date on the sticker tells you when it must be inspected again. A vehicle may be inspected up to 90 days before the next expiration date. In many counties, a car, van, or light-duty truck from model year 1975 or newer also needs an emissions inspection before the safety inspection can be completed. The manual points to PennDOT for the rule in your county.
