What help can FEMA give after a disaster in the United States?
FEMA says the Individuals and Households Program can provide money and direct help after a disaster when necessary expenses and serious needs are uninsured or under-insured. It is not a substitute for insurance. It does not pay for every loss. The page lists temporary housing funds, repair or replacement funds for an owner-occupied primary home, a temporary housing unit when that disaster allows it, and funds for other uninsured disaster-caused needs. Tell FEMA if someone in the household has a disability or needs another language. Sharing FEMA records with another person needs a signed privacy release. Confirm on the official page.
