What do I do after a car accident in New Zealand?
The road code says that if you are in a crash and you are not badly injured, the first thing you must do is stop, check whether anyone is hurt, and help them. If someone is hurt, tell a police officer as soon as you can, and no later than 24 hours after the crash. If nobody is hurt, give your name, address, and plate number as soon as you can, and no later than 48 hours, to the owner or driver of any other damaged vehicle and to the owner of any damaged property. If you cannot find those people, tell a police officer as soon as you can, and no later than 60 hours. If the vehicle is insured, tell the insurer as soon as you can. For emergency services, call 111.
