When does a car need an APK in the Netherlands?
The RDW says a petrol, alcohol, or electric car up to 3,500 kg has its first APK at 4 years. After that it is tested twice at a 2-year interval, and every year once it is 8. A diesel or gas car has its first APK at 3 years, then every year. From 30 years the test is every 2 years. From 50 years there is no APK duty. Age is counted from the date the vehicle was first allowed on the road. You can have the test from 2 months before the expiry date and keep the same date.
