What car insurance must I have in Italy?
IVASS says that when a car is registered in any EU country, the owner must take out civil liability insurance. In Italy this is called RC auto. It is valid in the other EU countries where the car is used for a short time. It covers material damage or injury to people other than the driver, when the driver is responsible. If the damage is more than the maximum in the contract, the driver pays the rest.
