What paid maternity leave does the Maternity Benefit Act set in India?
The Maternity Benefit Amendment Act says paid maternity benefit lasts twenty-six weeks, and not more than eight of those weeks come before the expected delivery. A woman with two or more surviving children has a maximum of twelve weeks, and not more than six of those weeks come before the expected delivery. A woman who legally adopts a child below the age of three months, or a commissioning mother, gets twelve weeks from the day the child is handed over.
