What is ESI maternity benefit in India?
ESIC says an insured woman is paid her full wage for 26 weeks of maternity benefit if she contributed for 70 days in the two contribution periods before the benefit period, and a doctor can add one more month. An adopting mother or a commissioning mother is paid for twelve weeks from the day the child is handed over. Maternity benefit is not paid for the same days as sickness benefit, and a woman paid by ESIC does not also claim that benefit from the employer.
