What is the difference between comprehensive and third-party car insurance in Ireland?
The Department of Transport says third-party liability is the minimum compulsory cover in Ireland and throughout the European Union. Fire, theft, and comprehensive cover are additional. Under the compulsory cover, the driver of the vehicle that caused the accident is never covered. Comprehensive insurance normally covers the vehicle and not the driver.
