What do I do after a car accident in England, Scotland, or Wales?
The Highway Code says that if a collision causes damage or injury to any other person, vehicle, animal, or property, you must stop. If you can, stop in a place of relative safety. Give your name and address, the vehicle owner's name and address, and the registration number to anyone with reasonable grounds to ask. If you do not give your name and address at the time, report the collision to the police as soon as you reasonably can, and in any case within 24 hours. If someone is injured and you do not show your insurance certificate then, report it within 24 hours and show the certificate to the police within seven days.
