When does a car need a contrôle technique in France?
Service Public says the first contrôle technique is during the 6 months before the 4th anniversary of first use. A favourable result is valid for 2 years. Take the original registration certificate to any approved centre in France. There is no summons. The owner still has to keep the vehicle in good working order.
