What do I do after a car accident in France?
Service Public says that after a crash with one or more other vehicles, you fill in a constat amiable, on paper or in the free e-constat auto app. Use the paper form if someone is hurt, even slightly, if more than two vehicles are involved, if a vehicle is registered outside France, if a driver will not use the app, or if there is no mobile signal. Both drivers sign the front at the scene. The paper form is not a legal duty. Insurers use it to decide who is responsible. Send it to your insurer within the time in your contract. That time is often five working days. If someone is hurt, call the police or the gendarmerie on 17, or 112, before you fill in the form.
