What is the widow's pension in Spain?
The Seguridad Social says the widow's pension protects the economic need caused by the death of the person who gives rise to the benefit. It can go to a spouse, to a person whose marriage ended in separation, divorce, or annulment, or to a de facto partner at the time of death, when they have not married again. If the deceased was working or in an equivalent situation, the record must show 500 days of contributions inside the five years before the death, or 15 years over the whole working life, and a death from an accident or an occupational disease does not require earlier contributions.
