What is the orphan's pension in Spain?
The Seguridad Social says the orphan's pension protects the economic need caused by the death of the person who gives rise to the benefit, and it goes to the children of the deceased. A child under 21 can receive it, and so can a child over 21 and under 25 who is not working or whose earnings stay under the minimum wage, and an older child whose work capacity is reduced to absolute permanent incapacity or severe incapacity. When the death is after 1 January 2008 and the deceased was registered or in an equivalent situation, no earlier contribution period is required.
