When does a car need a Hauptuntersuchung in Germany?
Annex VIII to section 29 says the first Hauptuntersuchung for an ordinary car is 36 months after it first enters traffic. Later tests are every 24 months. Cars used to carry passengers for pay, and ambulances with no more than eight passenger seats, are every 12 months. The month and year of the next test are on the inspection sticker.
