What do I do after a car accident in Chile?
CONASET says that if you are in a crash, or you see one, you stop the vehicle, help anyone who may be hurt, and tell the authorities. To use the compulsory personal accident insurance, go to an emergency service for a physical injury and say it was a traffic crash. Report it to Carabineros. You need the vehicle plate. Ask for the certificate from the court or the public prosecutor that records the crash. Tell the insurance company, and keep the medical receipts and the court or prosecutor papers you have from the crash. The driver or owner gives written notice to the insurer within 30 days of learning of the crash, and reports it at once at the nearest Carabineros unit, showing the insurance certificate.
