What is temporary incapacity benefit in Brazil?
The INSS says temporary incapacity benefit, formerly called sick pay, is for an insured person who proves in a medical exam that they are temporarily unable to do their work or usual activity for more than 15 consecutive days because of illness or an accident. The person must have insured status, and the usual waiting period is 12 monthly contributions, unless that page lists an exemption such as an accident or an occupational disease. The request can be made online through Meu INSS, with a readable medical certificate that names the person, the illness, the issue date, the estimated rest, and the professional's signature.
