What is unemployment benefit in Belgium?
The National Employment Office says that from March 2026 unemployment benefit in Belgium is limited in time, and that admission after a job requires 312 days of salaried work or assimilated days in a reference period of 36 months, at any age. Days that sit before an earlier admission cannot be counted again, and only salaried days count, not self-employed work. The person must also be without work and without pay because of circumstances independent of their will, and this sheet covers a first request after 28 February 2026 or a new request after a break of at least four weeks.
