社会福利局说，老年人援助是按月现金，对象是住在马来西亚、年满60岁的马来西亚公民，而且家庭收入不超过现行的极端贫困线。公布的金额是每月600林吉特。这个人不住在该局的机构里，也不住在领取配给补助的照护中心。
